Traffic Accidents

Information on handling a traffic accident:
A. What do I do if I’m involved in a traffic accident?
  1. Please dial 110 immediately for police or 089-328344 for the Traffic Police Brigade. If someone is injured, dial 119 for help.
  2. When reporting a traffic accident, the accident location and time, vehicle type and plate number, injury status and reporter’s name and address should be described in detail. After reporting the accident, remain at the scene to wait for the police to arrive. In the event that the accident is reported by a party involved in the accident, voluntary surrender will entitle the reporter to sentence reduction by law

B. How do I handle the traffic accident scene?
  1. Mild traffic accidents: For a traffic accident involving slight damage to the vehicles and without anyone being injured, the position (four corners) of the car or the tires of the motorcycle shall be marked with paint or chalk on the ground, followed by moving the vehicle away to the roadside so as not to hinder the traffic, before reporting to the police.
  2. General traffic accidents (excl. mild traffic accidents): Report to the police immediately; at the same time, keep the accident scene intact for police to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. Warning signs shall be placed in front and back of the vehicles, to prevent traffic hindrance or subsequent accidents.
  3. In case of casualty, the scene shall be kept intact in the first place. Any movement of the injured shall be agreed by the injured to avoid secondary injury. You are not in the position to judge if the injured has died or not. Contact police immediately for medical assistance.
  4. After the police have arrived at the scene of the traffic accident, all involved parties shall come forward with their IDs, and elaborate on the traffic accident for the police to map the scene, collect evidence and conduct their investigation.

C. What should I do if the other party runs away after the accident?
  1. When the other party runs from the accident, contact the Duty Command Center at “110” immediately and wait on the scene for the police to arrive.
  2. After handling an accident escape case or accepting the case report, the handling unit will first inform the owner of the vehicle causing the accident via a double registered order, and then arrange a time with the reporter for their investigation. The handling unit will inform the reporter via telephone to come forward for further explanation within 10 – 15 days. Thus, the reporter shall leave his or her contact No. and await the registered notice from the handling unit.
  3. For a mild traffic accident, the driver may directly settle the case on the scene with the other party and make sure there is no settlement claim from either party before leaving the scene. In so doing, you will prevent the other party from filing an escape case against you (any accident escape will have serious punishment imposed, and this will also prevent racketeering by the other party).
  4. When the other party requests too much compensation or an amount you are unwilling to accept, please report to the police and wait for the police to arrive. By doing so, you will prevent being charged with escaping from the scene.
  5. In the event that you escaped from the scene due to the violent tendency of the other party, report to the police immediately, to prevent being charged with scene escape.
