Identify sexual assault

What is sexual assault?
Any undesired or illegal sexually oriented behavior is referred to as sexual assault. Serious sexual assault includes sexual intercourse, oral sex, external ejaculation, touching of sex organs, and sexual harassment. Other milder sexual assault cases include showing of pornographic pictures, verbal sexual harassment, forcing the watching of pornographic films, continuous touching of or covertly peeking at a person’s body. Basically, these types of behavior can be divided into the following five types according to the degree of the assault: sexual teasing, improper touching, sexual rewards, forcing sexual intercourse with threat, and rape.
What should I do when I’m being assaulted?
◎ Stay calm: Don’t say anything that may provoke the perpetrator. Don’t hit back. Try to calm the perpetrator down.
◎ Protect yourself: Especially the main parts of your body, such as the head, face, neck, chest and abdomen.
◎ Attack at the right moment: If you decide it is an opportune time to escape by attack, hit hard without hesitation
◎ Cry out for help: Get the attention of your family members or neighbors.
◎ Escape quickly: Get away from there and/or go to the house of your relative, neighbor or friend, or a domestic violence protection shelter.
◎ Seek police help: Seek police assistance, and arrangement for visiting a hospital or a protection shelter.

What should I do after being assaulted?
◎ Quickly find a safe place or seek help from relatives or friends.
◎ Try to remember the perpetrator’s features
◎ Keep the scene intact. Do not move or touch anything at the crime scene.
◎ Put on a jacket or coat, but do not change your clothes.
◎ Do not wash your body, in order to allow collection of the perpetrator’s hair, sperm, etc.
◎ Receive medical examination. Great shock may cause you to be unaware of any injury. Also, medical evidence can be used against the perpetrator.
◎ Females encountering sexual assault can also suffer from psychological trauma, so seeking counseling help may be necessary.
◎ Other than the victim, the victim’s family members and friends may also suffer from emotional instability. Seek counseling help when necessary.
◎ It takes time to heal the physical and psychological wounds. Cooperate with the professional personnel and do not give up halfway.
