C. What should I do if the other party runs away after the accident?
- When the other party runs from the accident, contact the Duty Command Center at “110” immediately and wait on the scene for the police to arrive.
- After handling an accident escape case or accepting the case report, the handling unit will first inform the owner of the vehicle causing the accident via a double registered order, and then arrange a time with the reporter for their investigation. The handling unit will inform the reporter via telephone to come forward for further explanation within 10 – 15 days. Thus, the reporter shall leave his or her contact No. and await the registered notice from the handling unit.
- For a mild traffic accident, the driver may directly settle the case on the scene with the other party and make sure there is no settlement claim from either party before leaving the scene. In so doing, you will prevent the other party from filing an escape case against you (any accident escape will have serious punishment imposed, and this will also prevent racketeering by the other party).
- When the other party requests too much compensation or an amount you are unwilling to accept, please report to the police and wait for the police to arrive. By doing so, you will prevent being charged with escaping from the scene.
- In the event that you escaped from the scene due to the violent tendency of the other party, report to the police immediately, to prevent being charged with scene escape.
