How to Apply for a Mountain Entry Permit?

(1)  Basis: National Security Act & Enforcement Rules of the Act, and Regulations Governing People’s Entry to Controlled Mountain Areas in the Territory of Taiwan
(2)  Documents:
National Security Act & Enforcement Rules of the Act, and Regulations According to Paragraphs 8(1)-(4) of the Regulations Governing the People’s Entry into Controlled Mountain Areas in the Territory of Taiwan, the relevant entity (organization), school or group shall submit the documentary evidence showing the number of entrants, cause, destination, and duration of entry, in addition to the name list of entrants in triplicate, and original or photocopied national ID cards (alternatively, the household register if the entrant is less than 14 years old), driving licenses or overseas Chinese ID certificates, in the case of a collective application.  The entrant who meets the circumstances referred to in Paragraphs 1(5)-(7) of the same Regulations shall complete the application form (in addition to the plan and route chart, in the case of a hiker), and original or photocopied national ID card, driving license or overseas Chinese ID certificate.
(2) On-line application:
Please log in the website of National Police Agency, MOI (www.npa.gov.tw) to file the application.
(4) Application at the counter:
In principle, the mountain entry permit as requested may be received on the site.  Please submit the required information, mountain entry application fees and name list of entrants to the mountain entry application unit of the issuing authority (police departments or branches thereof, or National Police Agency) during the business hours on the day prior to the entry at latest.  The required information is specified as following:
1. Where the application is filed for the purpose of academic research, business demand, relief, culture, missionary work, medical treatment and health affairs, or work to be performed in the permanently controlled mountain areas, please submit the documentary evidence showing the number of entrants, cause, destination, and duration of entry as issued by the relevant entity (organization), school or group, in addition to the name list of entrants in triplicate, and original or photocopied national ID cards (alternatively, the household register if the entrant is less than 14 years old), driving licenses or overseas Chinese ID certificates.
2. In the case of an application for mountain climbing or hiking, please submit one copy of each of the route chart and plan.
3. Where the application is filed for the purpose of visiting relatives or friends, attending a wedding, funeral or ceremony, or with any other reasons proven justified, or for entry to specific mountain controlled areas, please submit the original or photocopied ID cards of the entrants (alternatively, the household register if the entrant is less than 14 years old), driving licenses or overseas Chinese ID certificates.
(5) Application via mail:
1. The entrant who cannot apply for the permit at counter personally may mail said information, mountain entry application fees and stamped envelope to the issuing authority via registered mail within 5-30 days (exclusive of weekends and holidays) prior to the entry.
2. The stamped envelope shall be posted the registered mailing stamp valuing NT$50, and self-addressed with the addressee’s name.
